All work is functional unless otherwise indicated.  Functional work is made of stoneware which is very durable, and is food- and dishwasher-safe, and microwave safe when used as directed.

Please read individual care information specific to your piece.

Cooking with ceramics

To ensure continued durability and guard against cracking:

  • Avoid temperature shocks ― cold dishes should not be put into hot ovens, and hot dishes should not be put into cold water or refrigerators.
  • Do not use on stoves or over open flame.
  • Lids should not be used during cooking.
  • Bowls and casseroles should be at least half-full when baked or microwaved.
  • When using a recipe for baking, follow the guidelines for glass bake-ware.

Pillow vases

  • Pillow vases are as versatile as they are easy. They work equally well for one huge short bloom, or bunches of tall wildflowers.
  • Simply fill the vases with water from the tap, and add flowers! When you're done, just turn upside-down in a dish-drain overnight to dry.
  • To clean, rinse with a little diluted bleach and turn upside-down to dry.

Raku pieces

  • Raku is a NON-FUNCTIONAL finish. It should NOT be considered food-safe or water-tight.
  • Raku-fired work is porous, and should not be used to hold liquids or food, and should be prevented from freezing.
  • Raku-firing creates dramatic finishes, but also results in stress on the clay. Small cracks are normal.
  • Piercing can also result in stress on the clay. Work with cut-outs should be handled gently to prevent breakage.
